The Vault Collection

Barrett Street (Demo)

Barrett Street (Demo)

Happy Thanksgiving season to all! During this season of thanksgiving I've been reflecting on the blessings I've had with my musical journey. I've come a long way from where I started. In gratitude of some of my earlier works, I want to share some old demo songs from the earlier years that were buried in what I call "The Vault Collection". These songs never found a home in my albums and with the direction of my current musical endeavors, I'm not sure they ever would. So for the entirety of November I will be posting a demo song from the Vault Collection every Friday. These songs will be left mostly in the state they were found in when originally created. Please Enjoy! I wrote "Barrett Street" back in the spring of 2018 while attending Burlington Technical Center for Media Production (in Vermont) at the end of my high school years. The technical center could be a 40 minute commute on a one way trip. Every day coming home from tech., I would pass an older homeless gentleman with a distinct long grey beard, camouflage jacket and winter beanie holding the same cardboard sign. After seeing countless people giving a $5 bill or so and driving on without perhaps ever giving a second thought I started to wonder how much he was actually noticed. This song was written from the perspective of a man who felt thrown out of society and stood on the corner of Barrett Street. The vocals, bass guitar and acoustic guitar recordings are from 2018. Demo was Written and Produced by Jeremy Carter Extra Credits: Piano - Joey Vespa Listen to my Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/391pu3JMnGhSjPSa3rl6Qk Find More: https://jeremycartermusic.bandcamp.com/ https://www.facebook.com/jcartmy/ https://www.instagram.com/jcartmy/ https://jcartmy.wixsite.com/music #thanksgiving #demo #original #thevault #acoustic #worldmusic #homeless #inspire

MASSACRE

In honor of the Clutter family, who were murdered in their own home November 15th, 1959, 60 years ago to the day of this song's release. Inspired by Truman Capote's novel "In Cold Blood". In my senior year of high school, for my criminal minds class, I was tasked with writing a song after reading Capote's novel. I was creatively touched after reading the story and the song came out like finding lost buried treasure. The point of view in the song is that of a third person look on the town of Holcomb as the murder scene was discovered. This ballad will make more sense after reading the book, but I hope that all listeners can learn something valuable out of the tragic story nonetheless. The original "Massacre" was written and produced back in the late winter of 2019. I have kept the recording almost exactly the same as its first version only for the unsettling sound that the bounce produced. It works well with the story.

Lyrics: The sun comes down on a peaceful town The people sleep as the wind grows loud But what takes place this night you see Is a crime to wake up almost nobody A sunday morning bright and new As the autumn leaves are in full bloom The church bells ring the people sing But there's something that’s gone terribly The River Valley Farm grew dark As one misplaced cold graveyard And what a sight it was to see The lifeless hands bound to their rotting feet The town grieves over frozen souls Four shallow graves, they dug the holes The children stare as the parents weep While the Clutters lay like freshly slaughtered sheep Some feel fear, and some feel rage No reason for checkmate See this town good people dead Massacred on their homestead The Clutters were the brightest lights The town had ever seen ignite But all it took to end their lives Were cartridges some rope and a sharpened knife The moment that the news had come People locked their doors pulled out their guns For who they thought were friends and kin Could be strangers thinking of a deadly sin Who could scheme of such a horrid crime Who could find themselves out of time No motive had the court real stunned A family slain only in cold blood Holcomb was an average place But now it only seems to fade For all that once was known as good Had died along with the Clutters in boxed wood Some feel fear, and some feel rage No reason for checkmate See this town good people dead Massacred on their homestead Cry (In dissonance) “The village of Holcomb stands on the high wheat plains of western Kansas, a lonesome area that other Kansans call 'out there.'" “Oh no! Oh, please no! No! No! No! Oh, please don't! Please!” Released November 15, 2019 Written and Produced by Jeremy Carter Wide Wave Records © all rights reserved Listen to my Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/391pu3JMnGhSjPSa3rl6Qk Find More: https://jeremycartermusic.bandcamp.com/ https://www.facebook.com/jcartmy/ https://www.instagram.com/jcartmy/
